NEET And The Fate Of Private And State Medical Colleges

NEET And The Fate Of Private And State Medical Colleges
The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) will not play with the fate of the students as much as it will affect the private and the state colleges. Before the directive of the Supreme Court came into effect, the students had to take an examination at the all India level for taking admission into the top notch medical colleges that are run by the Central Government. The students were to take a separate examination for the state run medical colleges. However, the scenario has altered with the implementation of this rule and it is made for to serve better purposes for the students and the convenience of the authorities to conduct the examinations.
Benefits of NEET
While the directive of the Supreme Court is not likely to affect the fate of the students, it will certainly have an impact at the way in which the entire system functioned at the state level. However, the truth is that the students will also benefit with the implementation of this rule despite the fact that they are apparently in a state of confusion after the roll-out of this rule. The following points will illustrate.
  • The misuse of the entire system in which large amount of capitation fees were accepted by the private colleges for granting admission to the aspiring medical candidates will no longer remain in effect.
  • The implementation of this rule will make way for better and transparent checking and it can be expected that the authorities will have better ways to manage a single entrance examination for the candidates living in India.

Turning the Class Inside out – the flipped classroom.

Turning the Class Inside out – the flipped classroom.

It is usual for most children to show promise while growing up. Most parents love to display their child’s talent of memorizing poetry and songs to relatives and friends. However, the same parents lament the loss of interest in studies as the children grow up. “He can do it,” says the parent. “If only he would take interest.” It is not rare to find a teacher scolding her student by recounting the songs her student can remember, but when it comes to studies, the teacher is disappointed at the student’s ability to remember simple theorems. Sometimes, it even happens that certain students show promise in class, but the next day they are struggling with the same lessons.
Why do some students fall behind in studies?
There are many answers to question why. Most of them are related to the interest levels of students, and that the lectures are boring. However, is there a solution to this? What if lectures were made interesting? They could include animation and presentations! It has long been accepted that children retain most information when it is presented to them in a pleasing manner.

Making learning easier with the flipped class room

Making learning easier with the flipped class room

Imagine this scenario. A child is watching his lessons on the tab or smartphone. He is enjoying the lesson because it is filled with animations and presentations. The lesson is short so he doesn’t get bored and at the end of the lesson the child can assess himself by answering the objective type questions attached to the lesson. The software analyses the areas where the child is weak and presents the analysis to the child, who can go back to the lesson and relook at the concept to understand it thoroughly. Ultimately, he does comprehend the concept and passes the test on his device and also in school.
Many parents would go love the part where it says that the child enjoys the lesson, because that is impossible to imagine. However, it is believable once the word ‘animation’ enters the conversation. This plot is not from a sci-fi movie, but a concept that is fast catching on in the world of education. This is called the flipped class room. So called because the student learns his lessons at home leaving the class room time free for discussions, experiments, activity-based learning and tests.

What NOT to do when getting back to school!

What NOT to do when getting back to school!

Hope you are enjoying the monsoons! Unfortunately the vacations are over and school has started for many and they are back in class. Honestly that is not so bad, considering some of our friends are busy running around trying to get into the best management and medical colleges in the country. I am talking about MBA and Medical aspirants who have been rushing to complete their NEET and CAT applications.
Well, it is a new start to a new year in school or college. Some of you are planning to enjoy and some have resolved to do a little better in studies this year. Whatever you have decided, it is not necessarily going to be all fun and games and it is really not healthy to be studying all the time. Since we have all decided what to do with our coming year, here is a list of what not to do when in school.

Not interacting with the teacher in class

The teacher is there for discipline, so as long as she is there you have decided to lie low. Regarding the questions she asks now and again you are definitely never going to answer them. They are answered by students who just want to show off. This is the basic resolve of probably most students in class. That is good for the teacher. Imagine what she will have to go through if all students wanted to have a conversation with her.

How does Brexit affect the Oxford-aspiring student fraternity?

How does Brexit affect the Oxford-aspiring student fraternity?

All kinds of divorces do have a sublime effect on the various sections of the society. And with Britain quoting their former leader Mr. Churchill, “History will be kind to me for I intend to write it”, things might not be that merry for the ones who are on the receiving end of this history being rewritten.

So when we think from the perspective of the large Indian student Diaspora who are aspiring to get their convocation ceremonies in historical fraternities such as the Oxford, Cambridge, etc, following are the major considerations we derive from this “Vote to move out”:

Growing technology and the flipped class room

Growing technology and the flipped class room

Technology is growing at an exponential rate. We can feel how fast it is growing when we look around us and find little children using smartphones and tablets to play games in comparison to some years ago when they did not have access to basic video games with low graphics. Everyone is now connected to everyone and if you know your way around you can find who is hanging out where at this time.
In a time like this, it makes a lot of sense to use technology to impart education. However, this is not a new concept. The dialogue to use technology in the classroom was started quite a long time ago. Many institutions have experimented with the use of computers and videos for some time. The increasing use of smartphones, tablets and digital readers has prompted many institutions to record lectures and send lectures by email to students who miss classes. Many educators have started using the net to send and receive homework.

Keeping tabs on students

Keeping tabs on students

These days every child wants to have a tablet of his own. And why not? He sees the adults using it all the time. The child’s aim however, is to play games or watch videos. Not many years ago children used to be happy simply gaping at the idiot box. In those days housewives used to put on the television for children so that they could do their household chores in peace. Of course times have changed and demands have changed with it.
Many parents actually buy smart phones and tablets for their children to play with, but studying still means that the child has to sit with a book in hand. The underlying belief being that even if children are not reading the book, there is always the hope that they may do it eventually.

Win the race against time

Win the race against time

Time management! How many times we must have heard those words in many different ways. Teachers give us time-tables. Parents give lectures how to do things on time. Everybody, who is ‘concerned’, wants us to learn to manage time for ‘our own good’. What is managing time? According to teachers and parents, it is getting up on time and studying the rest of the day. Yeah right! What do they know?
Unfortunately, for some of us the nagging of our parents about ‘studying or else,’ came true when we barely scraped past our exams. That’s when we realized we should do something about it – only to forget about it later.

It is all in your mind.

What we did learn from the past is what we do and most of what we don’t honestly depends upon us. It is time we realize how we react to certain situations including the suggestions we accept and the decisions we put away for later. Try to learn for yourself why you do it. Maybe, it is something you don’t like to do or when you were presented with the situation the time was not right and you made an impulsive decision to procrastinate.

How well do you know yourself

How well do you know yourself

Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. – Aristotle

There are many battles that we are fighting in our lives all the time. It is usually connected to the goals that we aspire to attain. We run the rat race of our ambitions. We sometimes fail, and sometimes we pass, but all the while we struggle to be what we want to be. Most of the time however, we want to be someone else.

Underestimating and overestimating

Whatever your aspirations, the first step towards success is knowing yourself. It means having a proper estimate of who we are. How many times have we underestimated ourselves? We have told ourselves that we may not be able to do certain things? I cannot do it! We have concluded. This happens every day. If we count the small things that we give up because of the various hurdles we encounter, we must be giving up so many things. Then we are overconfident in certain areas. We overestimate of our abilities. We may do it because of encouragement from others or we could be trying not to disappoint someone else. However, when we do try, we fall flat on our faces. Whether underestimating or overestimating, our actions are usually focused on impressing others.

Tips and Tricks to Crack Data Interpretation in CAT

Tips and Tricks to Crack Data Interpretation in CAT

The DI section in CAT can be rewarding but also your downfall if not attempted carefully. In today’s article we outline some strategies that you could use to make sure that you attempt DI correctly. We have also added a smaller section on how to study for DI in the last month of preparation.

Strategies for Cracking DI

Selecting the Right Sets

Most of the times, your performance in the DI section depends on your ability to choose the right sets. In a CAT DI section, not all sets are worth attempts. There is a good spread of easy and difficult sets. The objective is to choose the easy sets and avoid the tough and time-consuming ones. What is also important is to prioritize the sets that you have chosen to solve so that you don’t end up spending too much time on any one set.
How does one select or reject a set on the face of it? There are many factors that can decide this.

1. Familiarity with the Data Representation

Sometimes the CAT examiners represent the data in a format that may be unfamiliar to you. Because of this there would be a big risk to attempt such a set as you never know how much time you might end up spending in deciphering it.

Positive Thinking helps in Achieving Higher

Positive Thinking helps in Achieving Higher

In order to carry a positive action
we must develop a positive vision.
 Dalai Lama

Positive thinking is a much-hyped concept, but does it work? Or is it easier said than done? Shubha, a 40-year-old Yoga teacher finds it hard to be positive thinking all the time. The example of a Yoga teacher is most appropriate since Yoga teachers usually are doing what they love to do, and it is their job to remain calm. They work in an environment that is peaceful. What could go wrong? How can a Yoga teacher not be positive?

What is Positive Thinking

Positive thinking is not about thinking good things all the time. It is about keeping yourself motivated. It is about aspiring to be the best. The thirst to improve yourself. Standing up again when you fall.
Shubha was going to get married. That was a reason why she had negative thoughts. Although she knew her to be husband, moving into a new house and being associated with another family in a relation was a concern. Above all adjusting to a new routine and investing in the relationship was a priority.

WAT tests not only the quality of your content, but also the writing style. To build on these two, one must read newspapers and magazines, and cover a wide variety of topics ranging across the domestic and the international circuit.
It is important to get into the habit of building opinions rather than merely collecting facts.
